I'm proud to present this correctly-priced, ready-to-move-in gem in beautiful Greyton.. My own description cannot do it justice, so I decided to use the owner's own:
My musings about my little house…
Our little piece of Karoo in the Overberg. This house first caught my attention as it sat with quiet confidence in Buitekant street, a little refuge on the outskirts of town, but containing within its four corners a settled space that makes you exhale and rest. Friends endlessly comment on how the world goes quiet for a while as you walk through the little gate with the rusted bells & enter the cottage where the interior catches you by pleasant surprise. Double volume, exposed brick and light in all the right places. Cool in summer (from iso board ceilings) and the warmth of the (newly replaced) fireplace makes winter a highlight of the year. Outside, the stoep is set and ready for memories to be made; a daybed for reading and afternoon naps, the 8 seater table for discussions to be had and fine wines to be sampled as you have one of the few places where you have a low maintenance garden and can watch the sunset over Bakenskop, and that sunset is followed by lighting the fire pit and being surrounded by the sounds of nature and country life on any given day.. how lucky we have been!
If you go back inside, there is a touch of Karoo in kitchen and bathroom. The walk in pantry and ample space for appliances allows for a practical kitchen setup, but also leaves ample space for renovation to one’s liking.
Upstairs has newly renovated cupboards, with a toilet hidden in the mix. It provides enough privacy for a bedroom but allows the charm of the interior to remain. Currently used one half as home office and other as bedroom.
Perfect home for those that want something simple so they can enjoy Greyton’s outdoors and iconic views, before returning home to their own little secret view and escape. I've kept a maintenance hand on it, so there are no surprises. One can just move in and get busy with country living, and update and personalise as you go along and get a feel. For example, we used the free standing braai as we couldn’t decide on a spot and liked to use the whole garden. Then there was talk of braai deck on the garage … so lots of room to play.
Other nice to know facts:
There is a cosy Wendy-house with hot water for shower and electricity, with a little kitchenette. Used for friends visiting, or perfect to be used by a live-in Nanny.
Fireplace replaced April 2023 – GC Fires Somerset West did a stunning job!!
Geyser & general inlet valve recently replaced (bought from Build it Caledon, installed by Coenie) + solar adaption. Geyser timer also installed – I just don’t use it / forgot how!
Back garden gate allows access to walks at the back.
We leave all our outside furniture, braai grids, tongs, wellington boots etc on the back stoep – never had an issue in 4 years.
We do have three beams – so you can’t get more than 10 m over the back fence before it triggers something. Also haven’t had those beams triggered, mostly front beams from pigeons trying to nest.
Further beam on side on house + Solar Floodlights & Strategically placed rechargeable lamps so house lights up like Newlands when there is loadshedding!
Chicken wire mesh on lower parts of fence so small dogs are secure (will need checking though)
We don’t have sucking suzi but normal water-borne sewerage – yay.
Lightspeed wireless thingies installed and the fibre line is run towards the house ready to be connected when this happens soon.
Big French drains in front garden to help with rain runoff.
Wendy gutter resealed and runs to jojo. Opportunity for another jojo next to house. There is currently a soak away type underground structure with a pump to use to irrigate garden. I never used it.
