When did you start your career in Real Estate? 

Way back in 1998, but ventured into other fields of interest due to the recession from 2008 to 2014. Made a comeback in the latter of 2014 when I joined Meridian Realty.

How long have you been a property practitioner? 

21 years

What attracted you to a career in Real Estate? 

I was very involved in all my houses I owned as I had them built myself. That is where I grew a love for the property side of real estate. I dealt with very bad agents and very good ones (and the latter were few and far between) at the time.  I used the bad agents as an example and decided that I can make a difference in the consumers life if I do the opposite of what the bad agents done.  I wanted to change people's perception of ESTATE AGENTS. Right or wrong I always considered myself as a "people" person. I love meeting people. I am not the solo on my own type.  I need people around me so meeting new people was such a nice experience. (for me at least....don't know what they thought...hahaha) Lastly, as an (ex) mechanical engineer problem solving has always been part of my characteristics and job description thus, with real estate, all my needs are met...property in general, meeting people and solving their needs (buy or sell).   All my boxes were ticked so I am truly one very happy chappy!

What area / areas do you focus on? 

I don't have a specific farming area.  I would work any area from as far as Shelley Point on the West Coast all the way to Gans Bay on the Whale coast and in between. Distance is not a problem to me as long as my financial rewards exceeds my financial expenditure over time.

Do you focus on certain types of properties or do you do the whole range from student flat to lifestyle farm? 

Price does not really play a role. Depending on the area I sell, I always source properties that are high on demand.

What attracts people to your area of focus? 

The northern suburbs have a mix of real estate possibilities from apartments to normal residential properties to estate living. I can therefore assist in a variety of residential needs.

What are the best things to do on a "off day" in your area? 

With the Durbanville, Paarl and Stellenbosch wine industry on our door step it is just a 10 min travel to escape the concrete jungle and experience the rural side of life on farms, with brilliant restaurants and unequalled wines!! For the sea, sand and suntan its 30 minutes to either the Atlantic sea board or False Bay. Table Mountain or the Boland mountain ranges your desire?? - On your doorstep. For the avid golfer there are fantastic golf courses in the area as well. And for the nature lover and photographer possibilities are endless. In the northern suburbs of Cape Town you are central to all the beautiful options that the Mother City and the surrounds offer you.

What is the best advice you can give a buyer in today's market? 

Bargains are definitely out there.  Don't rush in. Compare properties in different areas to see what they offer and at what price.  If you have short listed your options, determine which one will best suit you and then make a lower offer (5-10% lower than advertised). And let the process of negotiations start.... Who knows, you might just be able to get the property of your dreams at a lower price than what you thought.

What is the best advice you can give a seller in today's market?

I am in the industry since 1998 so I have 21 years of insight of the property industry.

Give a short description of your personal and other business interest? 

I am married to Chanene and we have 2 children, Nadine and Zander.  We are also blessed with a 2 and a half year old granddaughter, Zene.  We are a very close family and love spending time together as a family.  I love being in nature (and that love is shared by my wife).  I like camping, doing 4x4's, taking photos and if time allows playing golf. Staying in Brackenfell makes it very easy to do all these things at hearts content.  Every weekend we take some time off our busy schedule to spend some time in nature. It recharges my soul and mind.
