When did you start your career in Real Estate?
In 1992 in Centurion. I was an Estate Agent for one year just when I had my first born. Now in my fifties, and all 4 our kids grown up, we relocated to Mossel Bay and I decided to take on the challenge of becoming an Estate Agent again.
Much has changed in the industry in 27 years.
How long have you been a property practitioner?
20 months, since September 2017.
What attracted you to a career in Real Estate?
I love beautiful houses and interior. I have a passion for and easily connect with people. I enjoy the flexibility of being an estate agent and being in charge of my own time.
What area / areas do you focus on?
Mossel Bay, Hartenbos, and Springerbaai.
Do you focus on certain types of properties or do you do the whole range from student flat to lifestyle farm?
Estates, Retirement Villages, Free standing and Sectional title. If a property is referred to me, I will definitely work on it.
What attracts people to your area of focus?
Mossel Bay and Hartenbos are very popular holiday destinations. It is also very popular for retirement due to the more peaceful environment and for being close to local amenities, and hospitals.
Most people buy sectional titles for holiday homes. There are beautiful retirement Villages such as Monte Christo Retirement Village, where I work actively.
Estates and Freestanding houses are sold to buyers from other parts of South Africa looking for a safer environment and more relaxed lifestyle that our area has to offer.
What are the best things to do on a "off day" in your area?
Go for a walk along the seaside at THE PUNT, and St. Blaize trial, Game reserves, Coffee shops, Gin tastings, wine tastings. Just enjoy the beauty and most tempered climate in South Africa.
What is the best advice you can give a buyer in today's market?
Buy in the best area you can afford. Location, Location, Location.
What is the best advice you can give a seller in today's market?
Let your Professional Estate Agent do an in-depth market analysis and evaluation for your property to determine the selling price.
Then go with that price. Too many Estate Agents purely accept what the Seller wants for their house. It is normally much higher than the true value.
The Estate Agents do not want to go the extra mile, or they do not have the expertise to calculate and evaluate the best market related price for the client, especially in the case of an urgent sale.
At the end, if the SELLER's property is overpriced, it remains in the market for too long and gets a stigma and most of the time, sells under market value.
